The Cangrejeros de Santurce and Caguas will meet again in the semifinals of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) Conference A, a year after Santurce eliminated Caguas in five games. This time, both teams arrive under different circumstances. Caguas hired Moses Brown to strengthen their team, and he won the Defensive Player of the Year award with averages of 18.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game.
Caguas finished the season with a 22-12 record, but fell to second place in the conference due to losing the series against Bayamón. Santurce, on the other hand, had a tumultuous season, but improved under new coach David Rosario, finishing with a 12-3 record and securing third place in the conference. The semifinal series between Caguas and Santurce will start tonight at the Coliseo Roger Mendoza.
Ángel Rodríguez, Santurce's point guard, said that this season taught the team not to give up and that they are ready for the challenge. Rodríguez averaged 12.2 points and 6.2 assists per game under Rosario's coaching.
