Puerto Rico's Department of the Family announced on a Sunday afternoon that it immediately revoked the license of the long-term care home Casa Dorada, located in Las Piedras, after a new alleged abuse case involving an elderly woman was reported at the facility. The home had already been under administrative investigation for alleged negligence in providing services to elderly residents, a process the Department was closely monitoring. As part of that probe, most residents had been relocated to other institutions in coordination with family members.
At the time of the incident, only two private-pay residents—those not receiving subsidized services from the Department—remained, as their families had chosen to keep them there while relocation alternatives were arranged. Following the incident on July 11 and the license cancellation, the Department said it would notify the families that both residents must be immediately transferred, offering available long-term care alternatives and support during relocation. The alleged victim remains hospitalized receiving specialized medical care, and the alleged aggressor was arrested.
The Department's Social Emergencies Unit was activated after the incident and, in coordination with family members, will relocate the second resident to another long-term care facility that same day.
