The Puerto Rico women's national softball team will begin its mission to secure one of two available spots in the 2027 Women's Softball World Cup Finals on Tuesday, facing host Peru in the group stage in Lima. The team, ranked third in the world by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), will also face Japan, Great Britain, the Philippines, and Venezuela in the round-robin format. The top four teams will advance to the playoffs, with the top two teams earning a spot in the World Cup Finals in Australia from April 5-11, 2027.

The tournament will also serve as a qualifier for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Team manager David Santos stated that the team's primary objective is to qualify for the next phase of the World Cup in Australia. The team is led by captain Karla Claudio and includes players such as Aleshia Ocasio, Taran Alvelo, and Alexis Bermúdez.

The competition will also serve as a precursor to the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.
