The Puerto Rico women's national softball team has finalized its 16-player roster for the 2026 WBSC World Cup group stage, set to begin on Tuesday in Lima, Peru. The team, led by captain Karla Claudio and featuring experienced players such as Taran Alvelo, Giselle Juárez, and Aleshia Ocasio, will compete in Group Lima alongside Japan, Great Britain, the Philippines, Venezuela, and host Peru.
Puerto Rico, ranked third in the world, will face Peru on Tuesday, followed by matches against Venezuela, the Philippines, Great Britain, and Japan. The top four teams in the group will advance to the playoff round, with the third-place team potentially earning a wild-card spot.
The team prepared for the tournament by competing in the 'Borinquen Smoke Out' series against professional teams in June. The World Cup will also serve as a precursor to the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, where Puerto Rico aims to win its third consecutive championship.
