The Puerto Rico women's national softball team won their opening game in the 2026-2027 Women's Softball World Cup with a 4-0 victory over host team Peru. Puerto Rico took the lead in the first inning when Eliana Enríquez scored on a double by Kairi Rodríguez. In the third inning, the team extended their lead with two runs, scored by Nia Carter on a double by Aleshia Ocasio and by Ocasio on a single by Kathyria García.
The fourth and final run was scored in the sixth inning by Luna Taboas after Isabella Foran reached base on an error. Taran Alvelo pitched five innings, allowing only one hit and striking out six, to earn the win. María Pizarro took the loss and Alexis Bermúdez earned the save.
The team will face Venezuela on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Puerto Rico time.
