Governor Warns Six Municipalities May Face Water Rationing Notices Due to Drought

Governor Jenniffer González Colón said customers in six Puerto Rico municipalities could soon receive water rationing notices due to drought conditions. The most vulnerable areas are the Jagual neighborhood of San Lorenzo, and the municipalities of Comerío, Río Grande, Canóvanas, Loíza and Cidra.

She said that between next Monday and possibly the last week of July, the situation will be monitored to determine whether a rationing or interruption plan is needed, based on drought projections; any such plan would be announced by the director of the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) with advance notice. Separately, González Colón said customers served by the Finca Rosso Uno filtration plant will lose water service on July 29 and 30.

The AAA director is coordinating with the mayors of Bayamón and Guaynabo to repair two pumps at the Finca Rosso facility that exploded last year, following an investment already made for repairs. The two-day repair work is currently scheduled for July 29-30, done in coordination with both mayors, with enough advance notice for residents to prepare.
