Pistacho, a dog adopted by Waldemar Quiles Pérez, the secretary of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA), will not be euthanized for now. An animal shelter, Huellitas de la Montaña, has requested custody of the dog to attempt rehabilitation after Pistacho bit Quiles Pérez, causing multiple wounds.

The shelter offered to take care of the dog and manage a training process with canine behavior specialists. A spokesperson for the San Juan Municipality stated that the dog remains in quarantine at the Animal Protection and Adoption Center as part of the protocol.

Huellitas de la Montaña later updated their Facebook post to inform that Pistacho is in the shelter and in good hands. The initial decision to euthanize the dog generated controversy and numerous reactions on social media, with animal welfare organizations and rescuers requesting a chance for rehabilitation.
