Puerto Rico Police reported two fatal shootings between Monday night and early Tuesday in San Juan and Mayagüez. The most recent occurred around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday after a 911 call reported a person on the ground behind building 15 of the Marisol public housing project in Mayagüez; gunshots had reportedly been heard beforehand. Mayagüez district officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds who had apparently died from his injuries.
He was identified as Luis J. Portalatín González, 28, a resident of the housing project. Separately, in San Juan, another violent death was reported around 7:26 p.m. Monday at kilometer 7.3 of Camino Morcelo in Cupey, under the PR-52 expressway bridge.
Officers from the Caimito precinct investigated the discovery of a man's body with multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body. That victim had not been identified at the time the police report was issued. Agents from the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) in Mayagüez and San Juan are investigating both cases.
