Why this matters: The killing scene under the Kennedy Avenue bridge sits on a main Santurce corridor, and investigators are weighing a link to the La Perla shooting that sent two wounded people to Hoare hospital, keeping attention on gun violence around these central San Juan communities.

Police in San Juan, Puerto Rico, identified the man found shot dead early Thursday under the Kennedy Avenue bridge in Santurce as Yabel Bonar Acevedo Dávila, a 25-year-old resident of Bayamón. The discovery was reported around 4:12 AM after a call to the 9-1-1 Emergency System alerted authorities to a person lying on the pavement.

Inspector Edwin Figueroa, of the San Juan Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC), said municipal police responding found the body of a man wearing shorts and a white tank top, with several apparent bullet impacts visible. Investigators are probing whether the scene is connected to a shooting that left two people wounded at the Sin Prisa business on Lucila Silva street in the La Perla community; a 9-1-1 call around 4:22 AM reported those two gunshot victims had arrived at Hoare hospital in Santurce.

Figueroa said they could not certify it is the same event but are not ruling it out, noting several shell casings were found at the La Perla scene but none under the Kennedy bridge, leading them to believe the killing may have occurred in the La Perla area. A car found in Barrio Obrero, with blood stains and not reported stolen, is also being examined for possible links.

The CIC is working the scene with the on-duty prosecutor and the Institute of Forensic Sciences.
