The National Meteorological Service (SNM) in San Juan issued an extreme heat warning for nearly all municipalities in Puerto Rico on Sunday. The only exceptions are the municipalities of Vieques and Culebra, which are under an extreme heat warning, along with the US Virgin Islands. According to SNM meteorologist Lee Ann Inglés, central area municipalities may experience lower heat indices, but the federal agency recently decided to uniform the bulletins for the entire area.
Inglés stated that there is a heat warning in effect, with hot conditions expected across the island due to humidity and southeast winds. The sky will be cloudy, but the sun will heat up, with temperatures one to two degrees above normal. Heat indices in the interior are expected to reach 100-105 degrees Fahrenheit, while coastal areas may reach 111-112 degrees.
Some brief morning rains are possible in the east, but not necessarily in areas that contribute to the Carraízo reservoir. Afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms are anticipated in the central area, moving westward.
