Updated Jul 3, 2026 · via Primera Hora

The National Meteorological Service in San Juan issued a heat warning for much of Puerto Rico on Friday due to the combination of high temperatures and humidity, which could raise the heat index to 111 degrees Fahrenheit. The warning will remain in effect until 5:00 p.m. today.

Authorities recommend staying hydrated, staying in air-conditioned places when possible, avoiding direct sun exposure during peak heat hours, and checking on vulnerable family members, neighbors, and individuals, such as the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include dizziness, weakness, excessive sweating, and nausea, among others.
