Edwin Sánchez Suárez, a 69-year-old man, has finally moved into his new home in the Sabana Abajo neighborhood of Carolina, after his previous house was severely damaged by hurricanes Irma and María nearly a decade ago. Sánchez Suárez, who was born in the US to Puerto Rican parents and has lived in Puerto Rico since the 1980s, received assistance through the Reparación, Reconstrucción o Reubicación (R3) program.

Governor Jenniffer González and Housing Secretary Luis Augusto Martínez Román presented Sánchez Suárez with the keys to his new home, which features two bedrooms, a kitchen with new cabinets and appliances, and a large bathroom with a shower. The house is also equipped with security windows, wide doors, a cistern, solar panels, and a solar water heater.
Sánchez Suárez expressed his joy and gratitude, saying 'I'm the happiest man in the world.' He had been living in a camping tent on his property after the hurricanes, with the help of his neighbors and a nearby church. The new home has a warranty on all appliances and work done, ranging from one to 10 years, according to the Department of Housing.
