The Puerto Rico Fiscalía has filed criminal charges against 31-year-old José J. Guzmán Guzmán, a resident of Utuado, for an incident of domestic violence that occurred on September 24. According to the Police, Guzmán Guzmán faces charges for violating articles 3.1, 3.2A, and 3.3 of the Domestic Violence Law, related to abuse, aggravated abuse via strangulation, and abuse via threat.
He is also charged with violating article 53A of the Law for the Prevention of Child Abuse and article 6.06 of the Puerto Rico Weapons Law for carrying and using a white weapon. The investigation alleges that Guzmán Guzmán grabbed his partner by the neck while carrying a knife and threatened to kill them. He is also accused of striking a minor with his hand in the face.
The case was reviewed by prosecutor Mayra Morales Antonpietri, who filed the corresponding charges. Guzmán Guzmán appeared before Judge Francisco Ortiz Caraballo, who determined probable cause for arrest and set a global bail of $250,000. After failing to post bail, Guzmán Guzmán was admitted to the Bayamón 705 Correctional Institution.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 7, 2026. The investigation was led by Agent José Vélez Ruiz, under the supervision of Sergeant Ivelisse Serrano Torres.
