The National Meteorological Service (SNM) forecasts a hot and humid day in Puerto Rico, with a possibility of strong thunderstorms in the afternoon, especially in the interior and west of the island. Meteorologist Rosa Vargas Martes stated that humidity from a disturbance that passed through the area on Thursday will continue to bring rain, particularly in the southeast and over the waters.
The activity of showers will continue throughout the day, focused on the interior, west, and northwest areas of Puerto Rico. Vargas Martes warned of a risk of flooding on roads and streams due to frequent rainfall and noted that the heat risk is limited, especially in urban areas and along the coast. Heat indices will range from 90 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in coastal areas, including Vieques and Culebra.
Vargas Martes advised people sensitive to heat to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities. Additionally, there is a limited risk of marine currents along the north, northwest, and northeast coasts of Puerto Rico, as well as in the US Virgin Islands and the municipalities of Vieques and Culebra.
