The National Weather Service in San Juan forecasts a typical weather pattern for Monday and Tuesday, with periods of heat in the morning and development of rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. A trough to the west-northwest of the region will gradually lose influence, while a high-pressure zone in the mid-levels of the atmosphere will strengthen.
Although temperatures in the lower levels will remain above normal, the warming in upper levels and moderate atmospheric stability will limit the overall intensity of the storms. However, sufficient humidity, diurnal warming, convergence of sea breezes, and terrain effects will favor the development of rain showers and thunderstorms during the afternoons, mainly in the interior, west, and northwest of Puerto Rico.
The National Weather Service warns that heat will be the main hazard during late morning and early afternoon, with the highest risk expected on Monday, and recommends staying alert to weather conditions, especially in the afternoons, when storms could develop rapidly in the interior and west.
