In Puerto Rico, Representative Joel Franqui Atiles defended his proposal to reduce the workweek for government employees to four days without reducing their salary. According to Franqui Atiles, the measure has been successfully implemented in other municipalities, such as Loíza, Vega Baja, and Camuy, without affecting services. He explained that the reduction would be only 5.5 hours a week and that the government would gain in some areas and neutralize in others by utilizing existing holiday time to give employees additional days off.

However, Palmira Ríos, a teacher at the School of Public Administration, expressed concerns about the proposal, stating that it could have a massive impact, particularly since it would not apply to all employees, and could lead to problems with service provision, increased government spending, and recruitment issues. Ríos suggested that investing in technologies to accelerate service delivery could make the measure more viable.
