San Germán led the growth of Airbnb reservations in Puerto Rico in 2025, with a nearly 60% increase from the previous year. The town, along with Jayuya, Coamo, Barranquitas, and Maunabo, was among the top five emerging destinations in Puerto Rico, with a more than 25% increase in reservations and a 10% increase in searches between 2024 and 2025.
According to Airbnb’s Emerging Destinations Report for Latin America, about 55% of travelers’ spending on goods and services, excluding accommodation, went to the same neighborhood where they stayed. The average daily spending per person was around $290. The report also found that about 70% of guests saved money by choosing an Airbnb accommodation, and around 60% of them used part of that savings to spend more on other goods and services during their stay.
Hosts played a significant role in recommending local restaurants and outdoor activities to guests, with around 60% of guests receiving restaurant recommendations and 35% receiving suggestions for outdoor activities. The median annual income of hosts in the five emerging destinations in Puerto Rico was around $9,200. Airbnb sees the interest in these destinations as an opportunity to expand tourism to inland municipalities and other regions of the island.
