The National Weather Service in San Juan forecasts variable conditions in Puerto Rico on Saturday, with hot temperatures, periods of cloudiness, and showers that could develop during the afternoon in different sectors of the island. Meteorological models anticipate scattered showers will keep moving from the waters east of Puerto Rico toward eastern sections of the island, and additional rain activity is not ruled out in northern and western areas during the afternoon.

Rainfall amounts and intensity will depend partly on how much cloud cover stays over the region and how much the surface warms during the day. While rain is not expected to fall across the whole island all day, areas with the strongest, most persistent showers could see urban and small-stream flooding, rapid river rises, and localized flash flooding.

Winds will blow mainly from the south to southeast at 10 to 15 miles per hour, with precipitable water, a measure of atmospheric moisture, near typical levels of 1.9 to 2.1 inches. High temperatures in low, urban, and coastal areas could range from the upper 80s to low 90s Fahrenheit, mostly 70s to low 80s in the mountainous interior, and heat indices could top 100 degrees in some sectors.

The southeast wind pattern will continue through the weekend; for Sunday, some models suggest drier air arriving that could limit deep shower development, though passing overnight and morning rains are still possible in eastern Puerto Rico, with new afternoon showers and passing showers over the US Virgin Islands.
