The Fundación Rafael Hernández Colón presented a commemorative edition of the former governor’s memoirs to mark the 90th anniversary of his birth, at a Saturday event in Ponce attended by former governors, former officials, family members and political leaders. Foundation director Eddie Torres Vázquez said the edition, titled 'Rafael Hernández Colón: Memorias 1964-1992', gathers a selection of events from three volumes covering the former governor’s personal and political career, including his terms as Puerto Rico’s leader from 1973 to 1977 and from 1985 to 1992.
According to the foundation, the book compiles content from 'Vientos de Cambio: Memorias de Rafael Hernández Colón de 1964-1972', 'A Toda Vela: Contra Viento y Marea: Memorias de 1973-1984' and 'A toda vela: Memorias 1985-1992'. Two of those works were published during the former governor’s lifetime and the third posthumously. Foundation board president José Alfredo Hernández and Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández Rivera read passages at the presentation.
Former governors Sila María Calderón and Alejandro García Padilla gave messages; former Secretary of State Héctor Luis Acevedo, former Justice Secretary Carlos Ríos Gautier, former Resident Commissioner Antonio 'Tito' Colorado and Ponce mayor Marlese Sifre also attended. The commemorative edition is on sale at the foundation’s Ponce headquarters; buyers wanting it shipped can call 787-259-0421.
