The National Weather Service (NWS) issued three flood advisories on Saturday covering 14 municipalities in western, central and southern Puerto Rico because of heavy rain in those regions. One warning, in effect until 6:30 PM, covers Hormigueros, Maricao, Mayagüez and San Germán. Doppler radar detected intense rain at 3:34 PM that had already left accumulations of one to two inches, and another one to two inches are expected, which could cause minor flooding in low-lying areas, areas with poor drainage and roads.
A second warning, in effect until 6:00 PM, covers southeastern Ciales, western Coamo, Jayuya, northern Juana Díaz, Orocovis and Villalba, where minor flooding could occur and some road crossings over bodies of water could become impassable. The third warning, in effect until 4:45 PM, covers Lares, Las Marías, San Sebastián and Utuado. Doppler radar detected intense rain associated with thunderstorms at 2:48 PM, with accumulations of one to two inches, and one to two additional inches are expected, which could cause urban flooding, small stream overflows and rising water in channels that normally stay dry.
