Puerto Rico will see another day of showers on Sunday, particularly in the interior and west, where the heaviest rain could cause localized flooding. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) forecast office in San Juan, an upper-level trough over Hispaniola will keep pushing moisture into the region from Saturday night through Sunday. Precipitable water could rise to nearly 2 inches, with a moderate increase in mid-level moisture.
Conditions will favor showers developing around midday, mainly in the interior and west. Rain could reach intensities sufficient to cause minor flooding in vulnerable sectors, particularly urban areas and small streams. The US Virgin Islands, meanwhile, will have somewhat windy conditions with brief light to moderate showers.
A drier trend begins on Monday, as air with lower moisture content moves in at mid levels of the atmosphere. Still, daytime heating and low-level moisture could produce some afternoon showers, mainly in Puerto Rico’s northwest. Sunday night, another zone of moisture could arrive from the east and bring showers between the US Virgin Islands and eastern Puerto Rico.
