New Progressive Party (PNP) Sen. Héctor Joaquín Sánchez confirmed on social media that he is under investigation in Puerto Rico over the participation of "some young people" from Loíza in a political activity held in Camuy. In his post, offered without further details, Sánchez said the young people took part out of their own interest and had their parents’ verbal authorization.
He said that information will be evidenced during the corresponding proceedings. He blamed the complaint on his adversaries from the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) in Loíza. Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz also said on social media that he ordered a proceeding to begin before the Senate Ethics Committee against the senator.
Sánchez asked to be relieved of the chairmanship of the committee he leads in the Senate.
