Humacao Judge Lorraine Acevedo Franqui, of the Humacao court, found probable cause for arrest against Rey Janiel Charriez Hernández, 22, accused of attempting to kill his 46-year-old stepmother in an incident reported on November 2 in Humacao. The Puerto Rico Department of Justice said in written statements that Charriez Hernández tried to kill the victim with a bladed weapon.

The investigation by the Humacao Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) revealed that Charriez Hernández allegedly wounded the victim with a blade in the abdomen, the head and one of her arms. The woman remains hospitalized at an unspecified hospital. Humacao prosecutor Janitza Alsina Rivera filed against Charriez Hernández one charge of attempted murder and another for using a bladed weapon in the commission of a crime.

After reviewing the evidence presented, Acevedo Franqui found probable cause on both charges and set bail at $300,000, which Charriez Hernández did not post. The accused will remain in custody until the preliminary hearing, scheduled for November 9.
