Puerto Rican trovador, educator and composer Samuel Quijano Huertas has released a new Christmas single, "Vine A Saludarte", a parranda celebrating the tradition of visiting family and friends during the holiday season. The song, which he wrote, centers on the joy of sharing with loved ones, bringing a greeting and a hug, and keeping alive the customs that distinguish a Puerto Rican Christmas.
Quijano Huertas, from San Lorenzo, has more than two decades in the island’s traditional music. He has performed with GrupoManía, Víctor Roque y La Gran Manzana and Manny Manuel’s orchestra, and currently promotes traditional Puerto Rican music through his Conjunto Típico Samaritano and as a member of Decimanía de Puerto Rico. As a composer, his songs include "Por ahí, por ahí, por ahí", recorded by El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, and "Las ganas de parrandear", popularized by Charlie Aponte.
He also has 25 years as a Mathematics teacher in Puerto Rico’s Department of Education and has taught trova classes in Juncos for 13 years.
