LUMA Energy has installed new voltage regulators to make the electrical system more stable for homes in the Islote community in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. The installation responds to a technical analysis that identified voltage variations in the area and determined the appropriate solutions to address the community’s needs. According to the power consortium, the regulators automatically adjust voltage when changes in electricity consumption occur, and the improvements are expected to help especially during periods of peak energy use.
The technology reduces voltage fluctuations and supports the proper functioning of equipment in homes and small businesses. Carlos Soto, LUMA’s manager of Lines and Low Voltage, said the improvements are part of the work underway in Islote to serve customers and provide more stable service, and that each project responds to the particular conditions of the grid to improve service quality in communities.
LUMA clarified that although the equipment improves voltage quality, it is not designed to prevent outages caused by equipment failures, weather events or other events affecting the grid. The company described the installation as progress in addressing voltage variations during high-consumption periods, one of the concerns identified in the community.
