Puerto Rico’s governor lashed out at opposition sectors as she reacted to referrals to authorities made by the Legislature against several officials, among them Energy czar Josué Colón, over the failed Power Expectation contract. She said she welcomes any investigation that may arise but maintained that the opposition and those who aspire to govern are pursuing a strategy of constant controversies and political skirmishes to distract from her administration’s work.
She told Telemundo: "Hay gente que es tóxica por naturaleza, hay gente que viven en una pelea," adding that some people fight with their own shadow and are bothered that someone governs. On the cancellation of Itza García’s contract at the Office of Management and Budget (OGP), she said only that "what is important here is that it was canceled."
She also responded to a request from several congressional leaders that Puerto Rico not provide Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with information on immigrants or cooperate with raids. She said a person who has committed crimes can be pursued by federal agencies, which can follow the person, go to their residence or wait for them to leave a church, but entering a church or a school with minors is going too far.
The remarks came during a visit to Vieques, where she inaugurated a resilience center and announced that the so-called Ruta Corta boat service will be available starting in summer 2028. It will connect the Bahía Mosquitos pier, which has begun to be readied, with the Ceiba terminal. She also inspected construction of lodging for doctors who will serve at the Vieques hospital.
