Beach water qualityPonce is the south coast's largest city and a base for diving on the southern shelf, with a working marina and dive boats heading out to offshore sites. Boats to Caja de Muertos depart from the La Guancha boardwalk. The coast is sheltered from the trade winds, so swell is usually light and conditions are workable year-round. Visibility typically runs 40 to 70 feet, and the water is clearest from May through September.
