AAA Announces Water Rationing Plan for Río Grande and Canóvanas Communities

Updated Jul 5, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

The Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) announced a plan to implement scheduled water service interruptions in communities of Río Grande and Canóvanas starting Monday, due to reduced production at the Guzmán Arriba Filtration Plant caused by drought conditions in eastern Puerto Rico. AAA Executive President Luis González Delgado stated that the plan will consist of alternating 48-hour interruptions to distribute available water equitably.

The plan will start at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, with Zone A, which includes sectors in Río Grande, and will continue with Zone B in Canóvanas on Wednesday, July 8. The AAA will coordinate with the municipalities to distribute potable water during the service interruptions.

The plan may be modified or suspended if water capture conditions improve.
