Mayors of Loíza and Canóvanas Await Response from AAA on Water Rationing

Updated Jun 22, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

The mayors of Loíza and Canóvanas, Julia Nazario and Lornna Soto, respectively, are waiting to hear from the Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AAA) on whether water rationing will be implemented in their municipalities. Nazario received a notification from the AAA to attend a meeting on a water rationing plan, but later expressed uncertainty after speaking with Soto. Soto stated that the Loíza Valley water intake was not receiving water, but later learned that water had entered the system, potentially avoiding rationing.

Nazario has experienced frequent water outages in her municipality and is seeking clarification on the situation. The two mayors plan to meet at the Loíza Valley plant to discuss the issue. Nazario also aims to coordinate water supply via AAA trucks in affected communities, after receiving disorganized deliveries on Sunday.

The mayors are seeking a organized plan to ensure all communities receive water.
