San Juan Activates Water Oases Amid AAA Service Suspension

Updated Jul 7, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

The Municipality of San Juan announced it has activated fixed water oases and mobilized municipal personnel to assist residents affected by a water service suspension caused by maintenance work by the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) at the Carraízo dam and the Sergio Cuevas filtration plant. Mayor Miguel Romero said that although AAA indicated the work would last about 14 hours, full restoration of service could take days.

Romero said municipal resources were activated even before the work began to respond quickly and support communities. Carlos Acevedo, director of the Municipal Office for Emergency Management (OMME), urged residents needing assistance to contact the reinforced Call Center at 787-480-2025 or via www.reportalosj.com, noting staff are deployed and ready to respond based on experience from prior events.

Romero urged residents to stay attentive to official communications from AAA and the Municipality. AAA had reported a 12-hour suspension starting Tuesday at 6:00 a.m. for maintenance and operational improvements, including equipment replacement at Carraízo dam and maintenance and disinfection work at the Sergio Cuevas filtration plant.
