This morning’s 5:00 chart from AAA shows Carraízo at 40.81 meters, down 4 centimeters from yesterday. La Plata is at 42.87 meters, down 10 centimeters from yesterday.
Service today
Day 78 of the metro rotation, the San Juan area’s rationing schedule, with interruptions paused since September 2, and AAA has not canceled it.
AAA’s Cedro Arriba plan in Naranjito is in effect: Zone C and Zone D take turns every 48 hours; Zone D has water until Saturday at 6:00 AM.
AAA has posted no plan change, open outage or water-quality notice in the last three days.
Every notice AAA posts is on the water page, in its own words.

La Plata: down 10 cm
La Plata kept sliding. This morning’s chart puts it at 42.87 meters, down 10 centimeters from yesterday, in the Adjustments band (Ajustes). The next line on the chart, into the Control band, sits at 40.50 meters, 2.37 meters below this morning’s reading. At this week’s pace that is about 34 days away (at this pace, November 26: a projection, not a forecast; one wet afternoon moves it).
If your water comes from La Plata (Dorado, Guaynabo, Naranjito, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, Vega Alta, Bayamón, Cataño, Corozal), this is the reservoir to watch; AAA lists 130,828 client accounts on it.

Outlook
What the numbers say
The pattern this week is a split. Carraízo and Cidra are essentially flat, with movements small enough to sit inside chart-reading noise, even though both gauged areas saw more than two inches of rain. Each wet day lifted Carraízo by 2 cm the next morning, and Cidra by 1 cm or nothing, which is not enough to change direction. Rain is arriving, but it is mostly holding levels in place rather than refilling the reservoirs.
La Plata is the one to watch. It has been losing 7 cm a day this week, up from 2.2 cm a day the week before, and it saw only 0.21 in of rain nearby, so there was little to slow the decline. At this week’s pace it would reach the Control line (40.50 m) in about 34 days, around November 26. That is arithmetic at one week’s rate, not a forecast, and a few drier or wetter days would shift it. Carraízo has no projected date because its week is flat. The metro rotation’s scheduled interruptions are not running, so these changes reflect weather and demand alone.
What to watch
- Naranjito: whether AAA extends its Cedro Arriba plan (the calendar runs through October 31), changes the phase or ends it.
Drought map
The US Drought Monitor map dated October 20 puts 42 of 78 municipios in at least moderate drought (D1). The worst tier, D3 extreme drought, covers 9 of them, led by Guánica, Santa Isabel and Lajas. Since the map of October 13, no municipio worsened and 6 improved, while 72 stayed in the same category. The biggest move: Cataño (moderate drought to abnormally dry).
Where the map is worst
| Municipio | Category | Share of area (Share of the municipio's area at this category or worse) |
|---|---|---|
| Guánica | D3 extreme drought | 100% |
| Santa Isabel | D3 extreme drought | 95.7% |
| Lajas | D3 extreme drought | 90% |
| Guayanilla | D3 extreme drought | 51.9% |
| Cabo Rojo | D3 extreme drought | 40.6% |
| Juana Díaz | D3 extreme drought | 37.7% |
| Salinas | D3 extreme drought | 30.7% |
| Yauco | D3 extreme drought | 27.2% |
The 8 municipios with the largest share of their area at D3, of 9 in that tier.
Since the map of October 13
| Municipio | Last map (Worst category on the map of October 13) | This map (Worst category on this map) |

USDM categories are a weekly expert synthesis of drought indicators, not a rainfall total; municipio shares are area-weighted. The full map, colored by category, is on the water page.
Lake levels
The gauge USGS runs at Carraízo read 40.80 meters at 5:45 AM. The gauge USGS runs at La Plata read 42.86 meters at 5:45 AM. The gauge USGS runs at Cidra read 400.63 meters at 5:45 AM.
The gauges report every quarter hour and their readings are provisional; the bands are measured on AAA’s 5:00 chart.
How we read the data
This is the 67th Daily Water Watch (yesterday’s is here). The levels update every morning on the water page.
Levels: AAA’s daily reservoir chart, October 23. Rain: gauges USGS runs within 12 km of each reservoir. Day counts start August 7, when the metro rotation took effect. Straight-line dates are arithmetic, not forecasts. How we report.
