The Capitanes de Arecibo, led by director Juan Cardona and general manager Gabriel 'Gaby' Miranda, are seeking to break a two-year streak of painful eliminations in the first round of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) playoffs. In 2024, they were eliminated by the Osos de Manatí, and in 2025, they were eliminated by the Indios de Mayagüez, both times with the same score: 89-87. Arecibo will face the Santeros de Aguada in the semifinals of Conference B, starting on Thursday at the Coliseo Manuel 'Petaca' Iguina.
The team will be without starter Ramses Meléndez, who is participating in the NBA Summer League with the San Antonio Spurs, but may join the team during the series. Arecibo has a strong roster, including Alfonso Plummer, Rafael Pinzón, Diego González, and Justin Reyes, as well as veterans Emmanuel Andújar and Juan Pablo Piñeiro. The team has also signed imported forward Rashard Kelly to reinforce the squad for the playoffs.
Miranda expressed confidence in the team's ability to advance to the finals, saying 'this group is going to take the next step' and that they have worked hard to prepare for the series.
