The Capitanes de Arecibo will start their journey to redemption in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) semifinals against the Santeros de Aguada, after two consecutive first-round eliminations. In 2024, they were surprised by the Osos de Manatí with a buzzer-beater, and in 2025, they allowed the Indios de Mayagüez to come back from a 20-point deficit. Alfonso Plummer had the ball in his hands in the final seconds of both games.
The team's director of operations, Luis Gabriel 'Gaby' Miranda, recalled that in 2024, they faced a Manatí team with four reinforcements, while Arecibo had only two. This year, Arecibo finished the regular season in second place in Conference B with a 18-16 record, while Aguada finished third with a 17-17 record. The two teams split their regular-season series 2-2, with each team winning one game on the road.
Arecibo is considered to have benefited from the BSN's pause for the FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifying window.
