A group of sewing enthusiasts, led by designer and educator José Negrón Rodríguez, founder of Costureando Workshop in Morovis, have joined the international movement Dress a Girl Around The World. The initiative aims to create dresses for girls in vulnerable communities worldwide. The group, including students, colleagues, collaborators, and friends, donated their time, talent, fabrics, and materials to reach the goal of creating 150 dresses to be sent to girls in different countries.
Each dress represents hope, dignity, and a symbol of love from Puerto Rico. José Negrón Rodríguez stated that every stitch has the power to transform lives. The project, which takes place from July to September 2026, is also supported by designer Tommy Hernández, the project's ambassador in Puerto Rico.
The organizers encourage sewers, designers, students, and community-minded citizens to join the initiative by donating fabrics, materials, or time. Updates on the project can be found on Costureando's Facebook page.
