A man, 60, and a woman, 64, were found dead Monday night inside a home in the San Martín neighborhood of Patillas, Puerto Rico. Lt. Edwin Godén Crespo, assistant director of the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) in Guayama, confirmed the deaths and said the investigation preliminarily points to a possible femicide-suicide. The couple had reportedly been married for 12 years and had no children together.

Authorities have identified both victims but are withholding their names to give family time to notify the woman's mother. What appears to be a bladed weapon was found at the scene, though official causes of death have not yet been determined. Personnel from the Institute of Forensic Sciences and the Prosecutor's Office were at the scene collecting evidence. Police arrived after the woman's daughters, who live in the United States, tried unsuccessfully to reach her by phone and grew worried.

They contacted her sister in Puerto Rico, who also could not reach her, prompting her to call the woman's brother-in-law; the two went to the home and discovered the bodies. The CIC of Guayama continues the investigation.
