A San Juan community served by the Carraízo reservoir continues to suffer from low water pressure, even though the utility has officially ended water rationing. Residents say the low pressure prevents normal daily tasks like doing laundry or bathing.
Ángel Rojas, who has lived for more than 60 years on a street in Parcelas Falú near Avenida 65 de Infantería in San Juan, says he has never before faced such critical water service problems. He says he hasn't bothered filing a complaint because he expects no response, and calls for change at the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) or even at La Fortaleza, the governor's residence.
He and other longtime residents note that even as officials announce the end of rationing, the water service problem is far from over for their community. Arturo Massol, associate director of Casa Pueblo, commented that the situation reflects recklessness and a government assumption that it can control the climate rather than obey natural laws.
