Loíza Mayor Julia Nazario warned that the municipality could begin a new water rationing plan because of a significant drop in the levels of the Canovanillas River. In a message posted on her Facebook account addressed to residents of Loíza Pueblo, Mediania Alta and Mediania Baja, the mayor said the river's levels fell significantly, which means the area will return to water rationing.
She said she will notify residents as soon as she is told when the rationing will begin. Nazario also explained that, so far, the communities have been experiencing low water pressure because they are not receiving water from their water tank, but rather directly through existing infrastructure. She urged residents to stay alert.
