More than 30 employers will gather in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, on Wednesday, October 21, for an employment and community services event organized by Sen. Héctor "Gaby" González López. It runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Centro de Recepciones Domingo "Juniquín" Figueroa Ramírez in Vega Alta. The initiative is supported by Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz and coordinated with Vega Alta Mayor María Vega Pagán and Puerto Rico’s Department of Labor and Human Resources.
Organizers expect direct contact between job seekers and employers, employment counseling, unemployment insurance guidance and digital tools to improve access to available positions. The Department of Labor will present PERFIL, the Employment and Recruitment Portal to Facilitate Workforce Integration, which uses artificial intelligence to recommend jobs based on applicants’ skills and experience while letting employers post vacancies and identify candidates.
The event will also feature health resources, government assistance and support for families, with agencies including the departments of Health, Family, Treasury, Housing, Transportation and Public Works, Natural and Environmental Resources, and Economic Development and Commerce, plus the State Insurance Fund Corporation, the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA), the Child Support Administration and the State Elections Commission. Organizers will provide free lunches and distribute 150 boxes of food.
Residents of Vega Alta and neighboring municipalities are invited, and González López, who chairs the Senate Committee on Planning, Permits, Infrastructure and Urban Development, encouraged employers with openings to contact his Senate office about future initiatives across the Arecibo Senate District.
