Prosecutor Carmen Santiago Román filed charges against 38-year-old Manatí resident Neysha M. Benítez Rodríguez for violating Law 8 of Vehicle Protection, evading monthly payments to a financial institution, and giving false information to the Police. According to the charges, on October 18 Benítez Rodríguez went to a police station to report that her green 2000 Toyota Corolla had been stolen.
Agent Daniel Reyes Acevedo, under the supervision of Sergeant Miguel González Figueroa, both assigned to the Stolen Vehicles Division in Arecibo, conducted the investigation and determined the information she provided was false. The evidence was presented before Judge Santiago Cordero Osorio of the Arecibo court, who found probable cause for arrest and set bail at $2,000, which Benítez Rodríguez posted. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 4.
