Puerto Rico’s Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) completed repairs on the pipeline that carries water from the reservoir to the Fajardo filtration plant. The agency projects it will begin restoring drinking water service between Wednesday night, October 28, and the early hours of Thursday. Enrique Rosario Agosto, executive director of AAA’s East Region, said the work wrapped up on Tuesday and that crews had to wait about 10 hours for the concrete used in the repair to dry properly before restarting pumping to the plant.

The public corporation said pumping would be switched on in a controlled manner, followed by a gradual opening of the distribution system. The procedure is meant to avoid sudden pressure changes that could cause new breaks in the pipes. Service will return gradually in Fajardo, Ceiba and parts of Luquillo.

Under the projection AAA announced on Tuesday, water would begin returning on Wednesday night, October 28, while communities in high areas or far from the system may have to wait until the early hours of Thursday.
