AAA to Halt Fajardo Filter Plant for Pipe Inspection, Risking Water Cuts in Three Towns

Why this matters: Households in Fajardo, Ceiba and Luquillo face up to 10 to 12 hours of low pressure or no tap water Monday while AAA inspects the leaking pipe, so stored water will be needed for basic needs.

The Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) announced that on Monday, October 26, 2026, starting at 9:00 AM, the Fajardo filter plant and reservoir will temporarily stop operating so crews can inspect a 36-inch pipe that carries raw water from the reservoir to the plant. This exploratory phase is meant to identify the source of a leak and determine what actions are needed to repair it, with the corresponding safety measures to protect the personnel doing the work.

The work could cause low pressure or interruptions to drinking water service in sectors of Fajardo, Ceiba and Luquillo. The work is expected to last 10 to 12 hours. Once the exploratory work is finished and the system resumes operating, service will begin to be restored gradually as pressure recovers in the network.

AAA urged customers in the areas that could be affected to take the necessary preventive measures and store water to cover their basic needs.
