La Plata: down 12 cm
La Plata kept sliding. This morning’s chart puts it at 42.28 meters, down 12 centimeters from yesterday, in the Adjustments band (Ajustes). The next line on the chart, into the Control band, sits at 40.50 meters, 1.78 meters below this morning’s reading. At this week’s pace that is about 15 days away (at this pace, November 13: a projection, not a forecast; one wet afternoon moves it).
If your water comes from La Plata (Dorado, Guaynabo, Naranjito, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, Vega Alta, Bayamón, Cataño, Corozal), this is the reservoir to watch; AAA lists 130,828 client accounts on it.

Outlook
What the numbers say
Over the past week Carraízo has been falling an average of 1.3 cm a day, after a nearly flat week before. Since the rotation began 82 days ago it has gained 313 cm, from 37.64 m. It sits 1.07 m above the Watch line (the next band down), at 40.77 m in the Safe band. At this week’s pace the Watch line (39.70 m) is more than two months away; arithmetic, not a forecast. Gauges USGS runs nearby recorded 2.19 in of rain this week; the wettest day was October 22 (0.8 in). After the 0.8 in on October 22, the next morning’s reading was -4 cm. After the 0.61 in on October 27, the next morning’s reading was +4 cm.
Over the past week La Plata has been falling an average of 11.5 cm a day, up from 6.8 cm a day the week before: the decline is speeding up. That is 7 straight mornings lower, -78 cm in all. Since August 7 it has lost 427 cm, from 46.55 m. It sits 1.78 m above the Control line (the next band down), at 42.28 m in the Adjustments band. At this week’s pace the Control line (40.50 m) is about 15 days away, around November 13; arithmetic, not a forecast. The 3 gauges USGS runs near the reservoir recorded no rain this week.
Over the past week Cidra has been falling an average of 0.5 cm a day. Since August 7 it has gained 43 cm, from 400.17 m. It sits 0.37 m above the Adjustments line (the next band down), at 400.60 m in the Watch band. The week’s net movement is inside chart-reading noise: effectively flat. Gauges USGS runs nearby recorded 2.8 in of rain this week; the wettest day was October 22 (0.89 in). After the 0.89 in on October 22, the next morning’s reading was 0 cm. After the 0.73 in on October 24, the next morning’s reading was -1 cm.
What to watch
- La Plata: the Control line is inside three weeks at this pace; a band change there would be the next real news.
- La Plata: rain. With none this week, the decline is pure demand, and the first wet afternoon over the watershed shows up in the next morning’s number.
- Naranjito: whether AAA extends its Cedro Arriba plan (the calendar runs through October 31), changes the phase or ends it.
Lake levels
The gauge USGS runs at Carraízo read 40.77 meters at 5:45 AM. The gauge USGS runs at La Plata read 42.25 meters at 5:45 AM. The gauge USGS runs at Cidra read 400.59 meters at 5:45 AM.
The gauges report every quarter hour and their readings are provisional; the bands are measured on AAA’s 5:00 chart.

How we read the data
This is the 71st Daily Water Watch (yesterday’s is here). The levels update every morning on the water page.
Levels: AAA’s daily reservoir chart, October 28. Rain: gauges USGS runs within 12 km of each reservoir. Day counts start August 7, when the metro rotation took effect. Straight-line dates are arithmetic, not forecasts. How we report.
