Puerto Rico is in for a rainy Friday, with showers starting early in the morning and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon, the National Weather Service (NWS) office in San Juan forecasts. Abundant moisture will keep dominating weather conditions across the region, and precipitable water levels will remain high, favoring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across much of the archipelago.
The NWS anticipates Friday will be the rainiest day of the coming days, so flooding remains the main threat. Frequent lightning is also possible, and before the showers develop, elevated heat indices are expected due to warm temperatures; vulnerable people should stay hydrated and take precautions. On Saturday, the chance of showers will increase in the north and east of Puerto Rico, as well as in the US Virgin Islands, particularly St. Croix.
The NWS urged residents to stay up to date with forecast updates and avoid crossing flooded roads or bodies of water.
