The National Weather Service (NWS) in San Juan forecasts slow-moving showers and thunderstorms on the afternoons of Saturday, November 7, and Sunday, November 8, mainly over Puerto Rico’s interior, north and east. Some thunderstorms will linger longer over the same communities because the winds steering the showers will run at only 5 to 10 knots, roughly 6 to 12 mph, with little variation in wind direction and speed between atmospheric levels.
A high-pressure area south of Puerto Rico and a weak low-pressure area to the northeast will favor west-southwest winds. For Saturday, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the morning, followed by showers and the possibility of a thunderstorm after noon, with a high near 83 degrees Fahrenheit, light and variable winds shifting west-northwest at about 6 mph in the afternoon, an 80% chance of rain and forecast accumulations of 1 to 2 inches.
Saturday night, scattered showers are expected mainly before midnight, mostly cloudy skies early clearing later, a low near 82 degrees Fahrenheit and southwest winds of 3 to 5 mph, with a 40% chance of rain. The risk of dangerous rip currents will be high through the weekend at beaches north of Puerto Rico and on Culebra, with the most dangerous conditions forecast for Sunday.
From Saturday’s final hours into Sunday, a weak north-to-northeast swell will raise waves to 3 to 5 feet in Atlantic waters.
