November opens, the prelude to Christmas, but Puerto Rico’s cultural calendar keeps a full slate of events this weekend. Highlights include the group exhibition “Aves de Puerto Rico: endemismo, territorio y memoria” at Casa Pueblo’s Galería Joaquín Parrilla in Adjuntas, where 17 artists interpret the island’s 19 living endemic bird species through photography, painting, printmaking and mixed media, with a talk by ethologist José “Pepe” González and free admission.

The Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña opens a bibliographic show honoring composer Tite Curet Alonso’s centennial at the national library in Puerta de Tierra, San Juan. A benefit evening, “De la Ópera a la Bohemia,” with soprano Hilda Ramos, tenor Rafael Dávila and Denise Quiñones under maestro Harry Aponte, is set for Caparra Country Club in Guaynabo.

Benito Márquez presents his salsa documentary at the Museo de Las Américas in Old San Juan. The Teatro Rodante Universitario marks 80 years with a commemorative day dedicated to Dean Zayas, including a keynote by Idalia Pérez Garay, and stages “Amores, bobos y ladrones,” its first Spanish classics in over a decade, directed by Israel Franco-Müller for a suggested $10 donation.

Also on: a flamenco night at the Centro de Bellas Artes, a children’s book launch by Zulma Ayes Santiago, theater comedy “Santurcia,” a symposium on painter Arnaldo Roche Rabell, and an exhibition on Puerto Rico in US history (1898-1952).
