A LIT Data poll shows Governor Jenniffer González Colón’s performance rating continuing a negative trend, with seven of every ten people rating her work as bad or very bad. LIT Data president Lourdes Fernández said the governor never had a honeymoon stage: her numbers started neutral to negative when she took office and have accumulated more negatives over time.
There was some improvement in June and July amid the controversy involving LUMA Energy, but the figures never reached fully positive levels. Fernández said part of the shift from neutral to negative comes from people who voted for the governor or identify with the New Progressive Party (PNP). She linked the trend to the difficult socioeconomic situation Puerto Rican households have faced over the past 12 months, describing the climate as frustration, socioeconomic strain and fear.
She also highlighted a seven-percentage-point increase among young people aged 25 to 34 who say they intend to emigrate from Puerto Rico, a segment she warned deserves attention because it represents part of the country’s future labor force. Fernández said the results reflect an environment of frustration and uncertainty among Puerto Ricans.
