Beach water qualityPalmas del Mar in Humacao, on Puerto Rico's east coast, is used for both diving and surfing. Reef-sheltered coves along the shore hold calm dive sites, where visibility on the reefs runs about 40 to 60 feet and diving works in any month of the year.
The open points are the surf side. From November to March, northeast swell brings waves of roughly 2 to 5 feet, while the sheltered coves stay calmer for the underwater side.
