A magnitude 5.0 earthquake was registered at 12:06 p.m. on Friday southwest of Isla de Mona, according to the Puerto Rico Seismic Network (RSPR). The agency reported that no tsunami warning, alert, or watch was issued for the archipelago and the US Virgin Islands.
The earthquake's epicenter was located approximately 67.72 kilometers west-southwest of Isla de Mona, 75.02 kilometers south-southeast of Higüey, Dominican Republic, and 159.36 kilometers west-southwest of Mayagüez. The seismic network placed the epicenter at latitude 17.91 and longitude -68.52.
This event comes days after strong earthquakes were registered in Venezuela, which have reportedly left at least 235 people dead and were felt mildly in various parts of Puerto Rico.
