The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning at midday for parts of southern and western Puerto Rico due to a high probability of wildfires, effective until 5:00 p.m. The advisory warns of the greatest fire danger from late morning through the afternoon, driven by fresh east to east-southeast winds with strong gusts and low relative humidity, creating high-risk fire conditions.
These conditions, combined with extremely dry vegetation, are expected to favor rapid spread of any fire that starts. Authorities urged residents not to discard cigarette butts, glass bottles, or any other flammable items onto dry grasslands, warning that such actions could cause dry areas to catch fire quickly.
