Power live: who is out right now, by town

Since Sep 30, 49 government contracts of $1 million or more with private firms have appeared in the Comptroller’s contract registry.

What stands out

The week’s filings are dominated by energy. Two Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) contracts for solar energy, each at $77,879,250, sit at the top, and four LUMA contracts for grounds and landscaping upkeep follow, running from $48.79 million to $55.66 million. Those six are the biggest items in the registry this week, which makes the electric system the clear center of gravity for large commitments.

The money is concentrated rather than spread out. Eight filings are listed in all, and the largest of them are all well above the $1 million threshold, while the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC) leads only in the number of filings. The rest of the large list is varied: licence purchases for Puerto Rico Innovation and Technology Service (PRITS) at $30.3 million, and temporary staffing for the Department of Health at $20.47 million.

Agencies file with the Comptroller days or weeks after signing, so recent weeks fill in over time; a contract can also be amended or canceled after it is filed.
